Hubbell Trailhead at Fleur Drive

Learn and play at your own pace at the Hubbell Trailhead at Fleur Drive. Located near Gray’s Lake and other downtown amenities, this access point will be a safe space for adults and children to experience the water as they best see fit. At this site, all ages can swim and relax in the water.

Fleur Drive Improvements

Improvements near Hubbell’s Gray’s Station development will feature beginner-friendly whitewater activities. Children and adults can learn surfing and kayaking at their own comfort level, without having to face more intense waters at Center Street. Improvements include:

  • Whitewater recreation
  • Dam Mitigation
  • Fish and recreational passages
  • Shaded seating areas
  • Viewing Lawns
  • Public Art Installation
  • Paved Trails

Construction is currently underway and is projected to be completed in 2028. Upon completion of the Hubbell Trailhead, the connection to Principal Point will open, making the full Raccoon River Run experience available.

Construction Timeline for the Fleur Drive Access Point

July 2025

Construction has begun. A ceremony was held on July 15 to celebrate. Bids have been received for the project and ongoing coordination with various stakeholders continues.

April 2025

90% of design was completed in December 2024 and the final stages of design will be completed this month. All permitting for the project is underway, with the team checking in regularly to ensure construction can begin in July. Coordination with the uplands design and various stakeholders continues.

January 2025

The design team completed 60% of the design phase in September, allowing the permitting process to begin. 90% of the design was completed in early December, which will finalize the remaining permitting process. Coordination with the uplands design and various stakeholders continues. Habitat assessments have been completed, with tree clearing anticipated to be done this winter.

September 2024

The design team is expected to complete 60% of the preliminary design phase this month, allowing the permitting process to begin. Coordination with the uplands design and various stakeholders continues. Additionally, habitat assessments have been completed, with tree clearing anticipated to be done this winter.

May 2024

The conceptual design for ICON’s Fleur Drive site is now complete. This access point will include dam mitigation components, fish and recreational passages, and wave features. The design team has hit the 30% preliminary design phase, allowing plans to progress toward the permitting process in the first half of 2024. Coordination with the uplands design and various stakeholders continues.

Amended schematics for ICON’s Fleur Drive site are being circulated to partners for feedback. The new concept keeps much of the original design but is scaled to accommodate the project’s budget. It remains on schedule with a projected completion date in late 2026.
