Safety First

Before heading out, take time to plan your trip and prioritize safety:

  • Know your route: Identify your launch and take-out points ahead of time.
  • Time it right: Estimate how long your paddle will take and arrange transportation at both ends.
  • Pack smart: Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a dry bag for valuables.
  • Wear a life jacket: Iowa law requires that children 12 and under wear a life jacket at all times on the water. A properly fitted life jacket is essential for everyone.
